The world of sounds, images and ideas where the juggler Roberto Frugone moves inside has been defined as a border of the singer-songwriter song. A multifaceted artist but, above all, an artisan of the sung word (even in dialect), this singer-songwriter has transformed his own life story into a path through his inner experiences that melts a bold poetic research with an original folk, pop and rock style. Some songs by Roberto Frugone are included in collections of poems, other ones have been the object of study and discussion in literary, school and training contexts.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH | PROFILE

Roberto Frugone (Genoa, 1974) lives in Casarza Ligure, between the Tigullio Gulf and the Genoese hinterland. A singer-songwriter, a writer, an arranger, a teacher and an expert musician skilled in several instruments (piano, keyboard, guitar, bass), he has been performing his repertoire made of original songs and music in the open air spaces, theatres, clubs and tv programs since 1994.

PRODUCTION AND DISCOGRAPHY

Since 1991 he has been writing about 200 musical pieces: songs, above all – in Italian, English, Genoese dialect and Latin - but even sound tracks for theatre works, radio and tv jingles, sonorizations, music for polyphonic choir and songs for children. As a singer-songwriter he recorded five original records:

RADIO AND TV

Frugone is also a radio and television author and an anchorman: in 2000, he hosted “Controvento” a daily program with interviews, reviews and music on Telepace. In 2002/03 he was the artistic director and a speaker of RadioPace, in Chiavari. In the season 2007/08 he hosted a daily program about the singer-songwriters’ song for the ETV Interattiva magazine.

SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

Roberto has always matched his own artistic experience with the attention to the social context and the helps for people. In fact Roberto has been working as an educational trainer at the Centro di Aggregazione Giovanile “Benedetto Acquarone” of the Ente Villaggio del Ragazzo in Chiavari, since 2000 and he has contributed to several projects of cultural and social activities.

LITERATURE AND DIDACTICS

Roberto has written several stories, tales, poems, two works for the theatre and moreover he is the author of a lot of didactical/musical projects with schools and cultural organizations and associations. His Totem Studio in Casarza Ligure has been a study, meeting and artistic and musical promotion centre since 1997.

Thanks to the support of the well-blended band that accompanies him, the singer-songwriter’s style ranges from the acoustic folk to rock, eyeing jazz and Latin rhythms, so that he can create popular atmospheres and captivating pop sonorities. In this variety, Roberto chooses the elegance of the arrangements, the originality in singing and the poetic intensity of the texts. His constant progress made of the discovery of his own roots and of the pleasure in linguistic, apart from musical, experimentation has led Roberto to write even in Genoese dialect, together with Italian, English, and Latin, some texts from the tradition rewritten in a modern way.

The Roberto Frugone Band’s concerto is made of a travel in the completely original repertoire of the singer-songwriter through a performance where grit and grace coexist thanks to the variety of the pieces, to the ability of the musicians and to the quality of the arrangements and of the voices. Solo parts, choirs and duets are often assigned to Clara Sambuceti, the female voice that embellishes Roberto’s concert with a soft tone and elegance in style.

The Art Company born in 2005 takes its name from the ancient term that has given the title to a record by the singer-songwriter Roberto Frugone. Ultreïa! music & words is composed by the people that take care of the singer and Roberto Frugone Band’s projects. “Ultreïa!”, that in Middle Latin means “further!” or better “go further!” is, at the same time, the motto and the style of this group of work.
